[IMPLEMENTED] Video cover grid in library or playlist

Have a tour of xt7-player features and make
suggestions about features you would like to be added to it.

[IMPLEMENTED] Video cover grid in library or playlist

Postby burak on Mon Feb 06, 2012 1:03 am

A video library without the embedded video covers view (cover grid view) is not functional and in Linux this most necessary feature is not available. VLC can only show the embedded covers of MP4 files, the MKV covers to be included (perhaps) soon. See the attached screenshot.

If possible, such an implementation in Xt7-Player would be most useful.

Regards.

I really don't think mkv supports embedded covers; at best it would be possible to extract frames from video and use them as thumbnail/preview.
The best would be to still use an iconview, adding support for thumbnails and embedded mp3 covers.

...it would take some time and testing

If you want to try, latest git version supports JPEG video covers embedded into mp4 and will display the first jpeg attached to an mkv container.
For video files without embedded cover, it will generate thumbnails.
To use the feature you'll have to activate the relative option into generaloptions form -> style.

You're welcome,
I know, the email notification doesn't work here on sourceforge.

Execuse me, if I'm missing something, but I can't see a grid view of covers. It's a list view.

Edit: I've first installed it from ppa and then installed from git thinking it's 3.0.1, but now see that I have only the version 2.9.x in /usr/bin.

Listviews has just a column, but i understand what you mean.
The gridview i'm using is the same as in the past, but only the first column has pictures, other columns are used for infos like album/artist,codec and so on.
What is changed now is that pictures are taken from attached jpgs (mkv,mp4,mp3,ogg,flac), from a cover search on internet (mp3,ogg,flac), or from thumbnails (any playable video file).
Also, you can choose the icon size from tiny to very huge
You have to set your preferences about those options under general option form -> style.

Git version is at 3.0.1, please check where you created the executable.

Well, I've been looking for it. Not in /usr/local/bin. Where should it be when installing from git?

Edit: Have re-installed this time from source in KDE-app and now I have two xt7s, one in /usr/local/bin (3.0.1) and the other in /usr/bin (2.9.x) The latter is launched from the Lubuntu app menu, but former can only be launched from the terminal?

when you install from git, the executable is right into the current folder, and as there's no .desktop file shipped, you may need to manually add a shortcut.
But if you've already the other (old) xt7, you can safely overwrite xt7-player.gambas so that your actual launcher will launch the latest git.

You can also check here, some folks updates xt7 periodically for *ubuntu, they're now at 3.0.0 (latest release is 3.0.1)
