[WORKAROUND] xt7-player and uPnp/DLNA

Postby pierrotlo on Tue Jan 31, 2012 12:11 pm

Hello,

Will there be an opportunity to implement UPnP / DLNA protocol?
More and more devices (NAS) are now available with this feature.

I hope you mean dlna client, but what would be useful for?
If you've already have a nas, probably you will be able to get and mount locally what it is sharing via smb/nfs/ftp/sftp and xt7 would treat them just like local files.

Yes that's it, is to use a NAS.
It seems that UPnP is more fluid and faster than a standard shared as NFS or Samba. The only software that I tested UPnP is that Totem has a plugin gsteamer adequate.
But the look of Totem is pretty trivial and the functionality are minimal.

XBMC is too heavy for some PC and Enna is buggy.

Do you think it is difficult to add a plugin to X7t? I did not check the source code now, but ...

Upnp is just a protocol a client can use to discover other network devices.

Try to mount a remote nfs share -say- into /mnt/nfs-nas.
then browse it with xt7 via "browse" tab, i don't think it will be slow at all.
If it is, then add the whole folder to the watched directories into "general options" -> library -> watched directories and issue a library syncronization.

I don't think it would be *so* difficult to add such functionality but it doesn't worth the pain, it is just useless other than limitating.
If you really want to use dlna, take a look here:
http://djmount.sourceforge.net/

djmount is a UPnP AV client. It mounts as a Linux filesystem the media content of compatible UPnP AV devices.
Djmount discovers automatically all UPnP AV Media Servers on the network, and make the content available in a directory tree. All shared files (e.g. Audio or Video files) are directly visible and can be played using your favorite media player.

Hope it helps.

Hi kokoko3k ,

yes in fact djmount is running fine but...

The list of Media are i.e for a video. It seems that I have only m3u file. If I open this file with xt7 nothing append.
If I edit the m3u file and I put the link in xt7 i.e. : http://192.168.1.25:50002/v/NDLNA/50.avi, all run fine.
it is possible that is the server wich serve only m3u.

What do you think about this ?

Thanks and regards

If you attach the m3u in a post i could check why xt7 refuses to show contents, but unfortunately i've very little knowledge on how dlna works, so i cannot help you much.
Seems your best option is to use an nfs share and access all files 'locally'.

It works here, just drag it into the playlist or library window
or select playlist menu->load/save-> append a playlist and xt7 will append it.
