my b&b has wifi access and yes, it is holday, i will answer but no coding :)
So... rosa media player (smpayer fork afaik ) works with subtitles, right ?

*does xt7 play xxx.avi with subtitles when xxx.srt already exists in the same folder before you hit play?
*are you using mplayer or mplayer2? (could you switch to the other and try again?)

As far as i see, it doesn't freeze, it is mplayer that just crashes.
Please, first reproduce the problem, then paste the output from the xt7 log window (both output and errors) just after it crashed.
Luckily, mplayer will say you what the problem is.

Nope mplayer crashes, The subtitle does not start even if the srt file it's in the same folder, and with
"carica dal disco" crash ....

kokoko3k wrote:*are you using mplayer or mplayer2? (could you switch to the other and try again?)

ok here is the error log from mplayer2 ;
Code: Select all
[ass] Error opening iconv descriptor
[ass] Error recoding file
SUB: error opening iconv descriptor.
[ass] PlayResX undefined, setting to 384
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: filter video
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
  disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

And the same thing with mplayer classic:
Code: Select all
3DNow supported but disabled
3DNowExt supported but disabled

mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.

[ac3 @ 0xf91500]frame sync error

[ac3 @ 0xf91500]frame sync error

[ac3 @ 0xf91500]frame sync error

SUB: error opening iconv descriptor.

[ass] Error opening iconv descriptor
[ass] Error recoding file

[ass] PlayResX undefined, setting to 384

I don't know what to do anymore.... rosa player , smplayer, kmplayer, tv-maxe all GUI's for
mplayer , tried even mplayer from shell and CLI and all this work nice and smooth , at this point I think it's xt7-player or at least my config ...

Yes it says both mplayer and mplayer2 :

Code: Select all
   Error opening iconv descriptor

Now I'll cancell all my xt7-player installation reinstall it and see.... but I doubt it

Post edit:
as I've suspected nothing changed , mplayer and all other mplayer GUIs work properly :(

PS:

Ok, see you in next days, meanwhile, try to delete/backup ~/.config/gambas3/Xt7-player and try again.
It has to be some option your mplayer doesn't like, for some reason i still ignore...

-EDIT-
maybe it ia sn ass related problem, try to disable ass entirely in xt7, it is the very first option into subtitle window.
If i am right, i'll default to non ass config in the upcoming xt7 versions.

(have subtitles ever work for you with xt7-player?)

Well, the issue is not solved.
Ass should work, in fact with rosa media player and ass enabled mplayer doesn't crash. (i can see shadows under the text in the screen you posted, and it means that rosa enables ass styles)
So now i've to figure out what ass option exactly causes the crash, could you please enable ass again in xt7 and enable/disable/change the various ass options in subtitle window and see if there is a particular one that causes your mplayer to crash?
Here it works flawlessly :/

Now that you mention it , not only rosa-mp but also sm-player and km-player have enabled ass....
I'll try to figure it out what option from ass menu, causes the crash...

I'll add a screen capture maybe could help...
I've change the font type from bitstream vera sans to liberation mono and enable the ass and it works...
tried also with :
lucinda sans, nimbus, serif , sans serif , and a lot others , looks like the guilty was bitstream vera sans
and now as error it gives only :
Code: Select all
[ass] PlayResX undefined, setting to 384

but doesn't crash and seems ok to me ....
