Finally, something is working, just click on the subtitle icon or navigate from file menu->media browser.

Eheh, I don't want to hammer it.
I don't think having python as a dep is a big problem, think that kde itself depends on it,
the code i used is for python2 and i'm pretty sure even gnome users needs it.

I pushed the latest version that allows you to search by manual query and save the subtitle on the disk.
All opensubtitles.org related functions are accessible under the existing subtitles menu.
Now you can try all.

That's strange,
From the log i see that you're able to call all the right functions.
The moviehash search (i feel lucky) may fail, it is normal, for me it works 100% of the times with "the big bang theory" series.
However, the manual search shouldn't fail
.have you write access to /tmp folder?
.are you trying the very latest git version (last i pushed 7 hours ago)?
.have you gb.compress installed?
.does the movie freeze when you try the moviehash (i feel lucky) or when you try the manual search?
.are you able to do by terminal:
if yes, try to manually gunzip it and drag it into the video window while the video is playing; what happens?
.does the movie freeze even in that case?
i'm sorry, but tomorrow moring i'll leave for a week
